DARMIAN TRAINS AFTER INJURY SCARE IN UTAH
Matteo Darmian took part in Manchester United’s training session at UCLA on Tuesday, after suffering an injury scare in the closing minutes of the 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake.
The Italian full-back was a half-time substitute at the Rio Tinto Stadium and went down to ground in the closing stages after a collision. He managed to see out the game and manager Jose Mourinho played down the injury in his post-match press conference, saying it is “not an important one”.
The boss was ultimately correct in his assessment and Darmian trained with the rest of the squad, as preparations continue for the International Champions Cup match against Manchester City on Thursday.
Speaking to MUTV, Matteo looked forward to the derby later this week. "Every game we play we want to win and of course this is a derby, not a friendly, so we are going there to win," the Italy international told us. "Playing against these kinds of teams is always good to improve in pre-season, too."
Reflecting on the win at Real Salt Lake and the experience of playing at altitude, Darmian said: "Yes it was a little bit tough. Also, it was a hard game, a difficult game, but we won and that is important. We have to continue working hard. Training is hard, but it is good to prepare for the new season."
